What type of tissue makes up a squirrels heart?

Answer: Cardiac (heart) muscle tissue

Simple Explanation: The squirrel's heart is not unique as far as animals. It is like a human's heart, except smaller because a squirrel is smaller. The heart is made of special muscle tissue called ';Cardiac muscle tissue'; that can contract and relax constantly to keep the heart moving your (or the squirrel's) entire lifetime.

Detail:

Cardiac (heart) muscle tissue acts like rhythmic smooth muscle, modulated by neural activity and hormones. Branching network of cells forming layers that wind in overlapping spirals to form heart. Cells connected by intercalated discs containing desmosomes and gap junctions. Cardiac muscle is myogenic, indicating that it is capable of generating an action potential and depolarization (and consequent contraction) from within the muscle itself. There are no nerves which signal the heart to contract. This does not mean that the heart is not influenced by the autonomic nervous system. Sympathetic and Parasympathetic activity influence heart rate and myocardial contractility, but they do not generate the electrical activity that causes the heart to actually beat. Instead, the sinatrial (SA) node spontaneously depolarizes in a rhytmic fashion, thus setting the pace of heart contraction. What type of tissue makes up a squirrels heart?
