Why do squirrels eat acorns and nuts?

Because they like them. Why do squirrels eat acorns and nuts?
Have you looked at their teeth? What else could you eat if you had teeth like that? You wouldn't be eating lamb chops!

They eat these things because they live in trees. They eat nuts because the pounds per square inch of strength in their jaws is so extreme that it can crush nuts open. They eat nuts because they can rest on their hind legs and hold nuts with their front paws.

Or perhaps they can do all of these things because they have evolved to eat nuts.

Squirrels also eat the plastic insulation on electrical wires. Why do you suppose they do that? Does plastic wire insulation taste like nuts?
